Community Involvement

Since its founding, Pine Street Carpenters has been committed to active involvement in our community. We invite you to read about some of our current and ongoing projects.

In December 2008, Pine Street Carpenters launched "The 100 Wheels Project," an annual community outreach initiative that provides disadvantaged children in the community with brand new bicycles for the holidays. We partner with local social service agencies and non-profit organizations to identify families and children in need, purchase unassembled bikes for each specific child, then host a bike-building party at our workshop. Once assembled, the bikes are delivered to our partner agencies, who in turn distribute the bikes to their families in time for the holidays. To date, we have donated 740 bikes to deserving children for the holidays. To read more about this project and learn how you can support this annual event, please visit

As one of the exhibitors in Tyler Arboretum's special exhibit Nature's Enchantment, Pine Street Carpenters partnered with the arboretum to launch "The Tyler Arboretum Writing Project." Our exhibit, titled What Lies Beneath?, features a mysterious and unexplained door leading underground. Visitors to Tyler Arboretum are encouraged to answer the question What Lies Beneath? by writing a story or poem inspired by the exhibit. Submitted stories are collectively published at We are thrilled to partner with Tyler Arboretum on this innovative community writing project and we invite you to participate. Visit Tyler Arboretum today... and get writing! Can't make it to Tyler? Click here to catch a video of the mysterious door.

In 2008, Pine Street Carpenters was one of the lead sponsors of Tyler Arboretum's exhibit, Totally Terrific Treehouses. Located in Media, PA, Tyler Arboretum is one of the oldest and largest arboreta in the northeastern United States, encompassing some 650 acres. As a sponsor of this exhibit, we constructed a replica of Henry David Thoreau's cabin at Walden Pond. Pine Street Carpenters won the "Best Craftsmanship" award for the exhibit, and Thoreau's Cabin is now a permanent fixture at Tyler Arboretum. Be sure to stop by Tyler Arboretum to visit the cabin and enjoy a fun-filled day in the woods! For more information about this unique project, please click here. For the past 16 years, Pine Street Carpenters has sponsored a team of cyclists in the American Cancer Society's annual Bike-a-thon. Each year, our team of riders joins thousands of cyclists in the race for a cure, biking from Philadelphia to Mays Landing, NJ. During that time, we have raised over $50,000 for the ACS. This July, we'll be riding in the 40th annual ACS Bike-a-thon. We invite you to ride with us as part of the Pine Street Carpenters team. You can also support the American Cancer Society by helping sponsor our riders. To do either, click here. We look forward to riding with you!

Over the years, many of our carpenters have donated their time to Habitat for Humanity building projects throughout the country and abroad. In addition, Pine Street Carpenters regularly donates surplus and salvaged building materials to Habitat for Humanity's HomeStore in Coatesville, PA. Habitat's HomeStores sell used and surplus building materials at a fraction of normal prices, with the proceeds supporting the construction of local Habitat houses.
