Since its founding in 1993, Pine Street Carpenters has been committed to active community involvement. We support dozens of special events and non-profit organizations throughout the year. These organizations do incredible work in the community, and we are proud to partner with them. We invite you to learn more about the organizations we support and read about some of our ongoing community partnerships, including our own community outreach initiative: The 100 Wheels Project.

In December 2008, we launched The 100 Wheels Project, an annual community outreach initiative designed to provide disadvantaged children in the community with brand new bicycles for the holidays. Each year we partner with local non-profit organizations to identify specific children in need. We then purchase 100 unassembled bicycles and host a community bike-building party with our employees, families and friends, then deliver the bikes to our partner non-profits. To date, we have donated 962 bikes to deserving children for the holidays. To read more about this project and learn how you can support this annual event through a donation toward a bicycle, helmet, or bike lock, please visit bikebuild.org.

In 2008, Pine Street Carpenters was one of the lead sponsors of Tyler Arboretum’s exhibit, Totally Terrific Treehouses. Located in Media, PA, Tyler Arboretum is one of the oldest and largest arboreta in the northeastern United States, encompassing some 650 acres. As a sponsor of this exhibit, we constructed a replica of Henry David Thoreau’s cabin at Walden Pond. Pine Street Carpenters won the “Best Craftsmanship” award for the exhibit, and Thoreau’s Cabin is now a permanent fixture at Tyler Arboretum. Be sure to stop by Tyler Arboretum to visit the cabin and enjoy a fun-filled day in the woods! To learn more about Tyler Arboretum, visit tylerarboretum.org.

As one of the exhibitors in Tyler Arboretum’s special exhibit Nature’s Enchantment, Pine Street Carpenters partnered with the arboretum to launch The Tyler Arboretum Writing Project. Our exhibit, titled What Lies Beneath?, features a mysterious and unexplained door in the woods leading underground. Visitors to Tyler Arboretum are encouraged to answer the question “What Lies Beneath?” by writing a story or poem inspired by the exhibit. Submitted stories are collectively published at tylerarboretumwritingproject.com. We are thrilled to partner with Tyler Arboretum on this innovative community writing project and we invite you to participate. Visit Tyler Arboretum today … and get writing! Can’t make it to Tyler? Over the years many of our carpenters have donated their time to Habitat for Humanity building projects throughout the country and abroad. In addition, Pine Street Carpenters regularly donates surplus and salvaged building materials to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Coatesville, PA. Habitat’s ReStores sell used and surplus building materials at a fraction of normal prices, with the proceeds supporting the construction of local Habitat houses. We often make our kitchen showroom available free of charge to community groups, non-profit organizations, and school groups looking for a space to host a fundraiser or event. In addition, several local non-profit organizations with limited space resources make use of our conference room for their meetings. Does your organization or group have an event they’d like to host at The Kitchen Studio? We’re happy to help! Just drop us an email or give us a call at 610.430.3333, ext. 124, to learn more.
